    Pending invitations

Pending invitations are LinkedIn connection requests you have sent that the person has not yet accepted or declined. A large backlog can be a sign to prune old requests.

Until someone responds, a connection request stays pending. Over time these accumulate, especially when acceptance rates are modest. LinkedIn has limits and behaviors around sent invitations, and a very large pile of unanswered ones may be a negative signal for the account.

Teams review pending invitations periodically and withdraw those that have been sitting for a long time. This keeps the account tidy and can help future requests, though platform behavior is not fully documented, so treat it as housekeeping rather than a guarantee.

Watch the number alongside your acceptance rate. If pending requests keep climbing while accepted ones do not, your targeting or note likely needs work.

    Common questions

How long do pending invitations stay pending?

Until the person responds or you withdraw them. Many people never respond, so old requests are worth reviewing.

Do pending invitations affect my account?

A large backlog may be a negative signal, though LinkedIn does not publish exact rules. Periodic cleanup is a reasonable precaution.
