    Outbound sales

Outbound sales is when the seller starts the conversation by reaching out to prospects, usually by email, phone, or LinkedIn, rather than waiting for them to make contact.

In outbound sales, the company decides who it wants as customers and contacts them directly. It is driven by a defined audience, a repeatable message, and consistent follow-up.

Outbound gives you control over who you talk to and when. That helps when your market is well defined or when inbound interest is limited. The tradeoff is that recipients did not ask to hear from you, so relevance and respect matter a great deal.

Outbound and inbound are not rivals; most teams use both. Outbound is measured through acceptance rate, reply rate, positive reply rate, and meetings booked, and is often run through sales cadences across several channels.

    Common questions

What is the difference between outbound and inbound sales?

Outbound means you contact prospects first. Inbound means prospects come to you, for example after finding your content or filling in a form.

    Is outbound sales still effective?

It can be, when it is targeted and relevant. Poorly targeted, generic outreach tends to perform badly.
